Former Argentine guerrilla leader Enrique Haroldo Gorriaran Merlo (R) makes a toast alongside his daughter Adriana, after leaving a Buenos Aires prison, May 22, 2003. Outgoing Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde pardoned the jailed former guerrilla leader and a former military coup plotter as a parting gesture to close the door on the past, with less than a week to go before he hands power to President-elect Nestor Kirchner. Merlo spearheaded an attack on a military base outside Buenos Aires in 1989 in which more than 20 people were killed. Former Colonel Mohamed Ali Seineldin, who led a coup attempt against the government of ex-President Carlos Menem in 1990, would also be pardoned. REUTERS/Enrique Garcia Medina
